PERSONAL:
Originally from an island in the Pacific Northwest, Kiersten Miller began her photographic career using the camera as a tool to navigate unfamiliar places. What began as a logistical record of streets and transit maps has since evolved into an evocative study of surrealism and shadow. Working predominantly during the low-light hours of dawn and dusk, Miller uses long exposures to uncover a quiet stillness within industrial environments. Her practice centers on the concept of giving voice to the inanimate. By slowing down the passing of time, Miller’s imagery coaxes a hidden dialogue out of solitary structures, creating photographs that possess a distinct, living presence.
